Conference

The 'Community Action on Climate Change' conference has now taken place. A full report on the day's activities is currently being written and will be made available on this website within the next month.

A huge thank you to all participants, speakers, workshop leaders and volunteers for their enthusiasm and input in making the day a big success.

The conference was a first step on the way to creating a formal network of interested parties and groups and individuals in the region who are working to educate in, and take actions to combat the effect of climate change.

If you would like to be involved in making this Network a reality, please contact the office with your details. We will then contact you as soon as a first meeting is scheduled.

Challenging the "it's too big" mentality…..

This conference aims to empower local people, activists, environmental professionals and decision makers to work together, building networks, and producing inspiring ideas and strategies to cope with climate change.

We will present a picture of the local impact of climate change, then concentrate on what positive action can be taken to both ameliorate, and prepare for, its effects. The goal is to inspire and enable the construction of constituencies on climate change, community networks of people positively engaged in taking action in their local area. Innovative proposals for dealing with climate change at a local level will be presented, along with examples of different projects that have succeeded in engaging people using novel and unusual methods. There will be a wide choice of action-oriented workshops in which we will discuss and brainstorm strategies to involve and empower at a grassroots level. The day will be participatory rather than passive, and there will be an opportunity for all to contribute their ideas. By the end of the conference preliminary work on building a community action network on climate change in our bioregion will have been done, positive connections will have been made, and next steps will have been planned.

Would you like to be involved? This is an opportunity to showcase what you do or to present a new idea on local climate change action or education. You could run a workshop, give a talk, or mount a display. If you want to contribute or are just interested please contact info@riverocean.org.uk asap!
