With the expansion of LowTide sites that accompanied River Ocean's development in the UK, the family of communities celebrating LowTide quickly grew into the thriving network that exists today. Throughout its development, the simultaneously global and local quality of the LowTide project has always been an essential component of our success, as well as the source of our motto "One Tide on One Day, around One World, because We All Live Downstream " The experience of joining with others to celebrate this natural phenomenon and its unique expression in our local environment, on the same day that folks just like you and I are gathering all over the world, is a profoundly moving one. Now, more than ever, we need occasions like LowTide, to pull us together as a world community in appreciating the powerful forces of nature that sustain each one of us, and effect all life on earth. Like the other LowTide events, the international sites offer people of many different cultures the opportunity to explore and celebrate local inter-tidal sites, under expert local guidance, utilizing both art and science. These celebrations have ranged from all day EcoFayres in France, Canada and Massachusetts, to school-wide outings in Ireland, guided walks in Morocco, smaller explorations in California, and gatherings of all kinds in inter-tidal communities around the globe. While UK LowTide development has been largely funded by grants from English Nature, there has not yet been any funding for the international sites. Even so, with the help of volunteer coordinators, participation from individuals and organizations around the world, and a lot of understanding and flexibility, together we somehow manage to sustain the many international sites who are attracted to join us in celebrating this annual inter-tidal festival, year after year. We support international sites with many of the same elements we offer the UK sites: an on-line listing of your event, insurance (providing you perform a safety check on your site and read, sign and return our safety form), promotional support, including our specially designed LowTide posters, and free lunar calendars for your participants. We very much appreciate the financial contributions you are able to make towards this support, but money is not a pre-requisite for involvement. We welcome your participation in this important international project, and want to remind you that your event can be as simple or as elaborate as you'd like it to be. Every expression is unique, valuable, and contributes to the expansion of the LowTide project around the world.
