22/05/06 Press Release LowTide 2006 - Saturday 27 May Celebrating One Tide, on One day, because "WE ALL LIVE DOWNSTREAM" This year LowTide events are occurring at 12 different sites around the UK, while in Holland our Dutch sister organisation are joining us with 7 sites taking part. We welcome back the Canadian west coast site of Cowichan Bay. People will have the opportunity not only to experience the wonder, beauty and fascination of what lies just out of sight at the end of the beach but also to draw attention to the fragility of the inter-tidal environment. LowTide is organised locally but coordinated by the River Ocean Foundation, a Brighton-based environmental charity which champions sustainable coasts and seas (see editors notes). How we manage and plan the future of our precious coastline will be a major focus for regional and local populations. Development, whilst necessary, can be sustainable or inappropriate. Local events such as LowTide offer a platform for debate and discussion about how we prioritise coastal management and the legacy we will leave the next generation.
