because we all live downstream
In 2003 The River Ocean Foundation (ROF) and Nausicaa began a partnership, called Ocean I, funded by Interreg IIIa funds, to support each other to deliver environmental events and information across the channel region.
Nausicca is the French National aquarium located in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The aquarium opened in 1991 and has received more than 8 million visitors.
Together ROF and Nausicaa started a one year pilot programme which featured a common coastal festival (Low Tide) in May. In addition we began training and network development.
In 2004 we embarked on the second phase of the Interreg III a funded bid called Ocean II. The partners had carefully assessed the Ocean I project and implemented a new enlarged programme which consisted of five elements:
- Interpretation and Events
- Exchange of Expertise and development of external contacts
- Tools
- Exhibitions
- Project Co-ordination & Communication
Below you can see some of these outputs which are now in various parts of the site.
