CONTACT

Send us your completed volunteer application form print here or fill in online. We will contact you within 2 working days of receipt of your form. Please make sure your contact details are filled out correctly and clearly. If the volunteer co-coordinator is not available to deal with your inquiry, someone else will contact you to inform you of this and to advice you of the next steps.

INTERVIEW

You will be invited to come in for an informal interview, where you have the chance to find out more about us, and for us to find out what your interests are. You will also be given some general information about volunteering with us, and copies of various policies, such as our volunteering policy and equal opportunities policy.

SCREENING

The volunteer coordinator will take up your references and start a Standard Disclosure process with the Criminal Records Bureau. This is standard procedure for both the recruitment of paid staff and volunteers.
Please note that the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 gives you the right not to declare spent convictions on your application form, except if you intend to work on a one-to-one basis with vulnerable people, in which case you are obliged to declare spent convictions by law.
As a volunteer with us you are very unlikely to be in one-to-one contact with a vulnerable person, but for reasons of good practice the River Ocean Foundation will require all volunteers to undergo a Standard Disclosure process. This process normally takes 4-6 weeks. In the mean time, provided your references are acceptable, you can carry out all volunteer tasks except for those that require one-to-one contact with a vulnerable person.
If you already had a CRB check done, you can bring it with you, provided it is less than 6 months old.

Finally, having a conviction will not necessarily prevent you from becoming a volunteer with us. You will be informed of the outcome of the Disclosure process as soon as is possible, and if necessary we will ask you to come for a second interview. All information will be treated as confidential and kept in a secure space.

In the unlikely event we do not have an opportunity available at the time of application, your name will go on list and you will be contacted as soon as something comes up that matches your interest.
