The River Ocean Catalogue for Educational Resources (ROC) is an educational resource aimed at teachers and others working with children, particularly 5 to 11 year olds. Its primary aims are to provide access to existing resources and practical support for educators about water.
The contents of the Catalogue are:
- Introduction
- Why Teach about Water? A guide to water as a subject.
- Schools and the Catalogue: These include sections on Water and the National Curriculum as well as a selection of useful publications and some schemes of work for teachers.
- Resources: These include Environmental Centres in the South-East, a listing of printed and multimedia resources, organisations and individuals that can offer talks and visits as well as artists that can offer workshops etc. There is also a listing of Websites.
- Field Support: this section includes resources such as activity sheets, in PDF format, and a safety and conservation checklist, plus services available from the River Ocean Foundation.
The River Ocean Catalogue for Educational Resources was supported by a grant from Interreg IIIa, through a trans-national project called Ocean II. The River Ocean Foundation worked co-operatively with the French National Aquarium Nausicaa, to produce a number of combined outputs between 2004 and 2006.
